Journal #4

Explore the room you’re in as if you’re seeing it for the first time. Pretend you know nothing. What do you see? Who is the person who lives there?

Home - Fern & Fog

I see toys, piles of laundry in the hallway, almost-fresh flowers sitting on display by the door, a collection of artwork (big, small, inexpensive and some handmade), an old and heavy dinning room table that seems to have seen better days, big and bright windows surrounded by neutral-colored curtains, a lovely modern lamp in the living room, fluorescent lighting in the kitchen, well-worn carpets blessed by spills and evident tennis shoe routes.

The open space is larger than most, but it is basically two or three rooms in one; living room, dining and kitchen. With the curtains open and the light streaming though it feels inviting and energizing.

The people living here are definitely a family. The clues lie in every inch of the room. Children's socks, puzzle pieces, women's shoes by the door, backpacks lying in the walkway, a wooden bowl filled with keys of all types. There is an attempt to keep and orderly life with shelves semi-organized with stacks of children's books and on higher shelves out-of-reach reach literature. The couch and area rug are newer - these people attempting to  have nicer things without worrying about ruining them! (I have a feeling the white rug will have a short run in this home)

But this room is the heart of the home and it holds that honor very well.
