What is it about bridal shower's that make me so proud to be a woman? The Bride, my sister, later shared how powerful it felt to be surrounded by all the women in her life that she loves and look to for support coming together to celebrate her and her upcoming milestone into another era of her life.
I'm not sure where the tradition for bridal showers came from. I always assumed it was an excuse to talk naughtily about someone's future as a wife or buy unrealistic lacy lingerie. But this day was not just that (though a little of both was a welcome contribution). It was a day of gentle encouragement of one another, and especially the Bride.
I understand now how important this day was and I was so happy to be a part of the celebration.
We held the Shower at Soul Food Farm in our hometown of Vacaville. It was lovely.
"Soul Food Farm is surrounded by rolling hills, ancient oaks, lavender fields and olive trees. The farm is a magical place of natural beauty and elegance. There’s definitely a sense of romance that moves in the breeze. "
Would you like to spend an evening tucked into this perfect spruced up tent? You can. Contact the Farm through Airbnb and rent it. It faces the Vacaville hills which provide 100% privacy.
The day was filled with some silliness as you see above! Though we don't always wear a sundress on a farm, we decided this was the occasion for it, and that in some way was a relief. (We really do like wearing dresses though they aren't always appropriate.)
We did allow ourselves to play. Though the dresses we donned weren't play-appropriate, we decided this was the occasion for some playing.
Eating was also appropriate - and a lot of food was consumed at this event.
Dresses, playing and eating. All of those things.
And then there was the sunset that took my breath away. "Moody clouds" I kept saying to anyone that would hear me, "They are moody clouds."
A perfect backdrop to surround the Bride with affection as she delicately opened her gifts. Gifts that will help her welcome this new era of her life.
We grew up together and are still growing up together. We have been with one another for each important moment in our lives. I am so thankful for this family and for this particular sister.
I cannot wait for the wedding!
