DO post consistently to your feed. Post at least 1x a day!
Definitely DO treat your Instagram feed like an extension of your brand.
DO include the link to your blog in your Instagram profile.
1. Click edit profile
3. Type in your URL
5. Hit “Done” and you’re all set!
DO add “click on the link in my profile to learn/read/see more” People need a serious call to action to click, so make it clear for them.
DO tag businesses or locations where you are taking your photos so your followers can get a better picture of your story. (But don’t tag your own home!)
DO design quotes in Photoshop or a free online program and share in your Instagram feed for variety.
DO ask for engagement! Like I mentioned above, call to action. Let your followers know you want to hear their thoughts/ideas/comments.
DO follow be a fan. Follow users who inspire you, or users who follow you and you like what they are doing. Show that you care about what it is they are posting and they just might care about what you are posting.
DO share behind-the-scenes of your business, customers, portfolio. Including tid bits of your personal life.
DO carefully consider which images you share in your feed. The way your layout as a whole looks is important piece of the Instagram, and especially important for branding. So take the time to balance a busy photo, with a minimalist-type photo.
DO edit your Instagram photos using VSCO or similar app. Using similar filters each time to keep consistency for your followers!
DO use hashtags to categorize your content. Use the hashtags you have found through your research that seamlessly tie into the content you create for your brand. And, create and use a hashtag for your brand. – If this seems clunky in your caption line, put them below in a comment.
DON'T have a private account. Maybe a no-brainer, maybe not.
DON'T assume Instagram posts should be like Twitter posts or Facebook posts. All three have their own posting rules.
DON'T ignore your bio. Two lines: who you are, what you are doing.
DON'T post without thinking about your visual strategy. How is this photo going to look with my layout? Reflect my brand?
DON’T be afraid to use hashtags in your post, but keep them reasonable (make sure they are relevant to your brand and message). Interactions are highest on Instagram posts with 11 hashtags.
DON’T forget that your Instagram must reflect your brand.
DON’T forget who your audience is! Who are you creating your story for, what are their needs or interests?
DON’T post more than 3 photos in a row - or use photos to build one large image on your layout. Talk about annoying.
DON’T change your cropping sizes. If you are cropping your photos using the square on your iPhone, stick to it. If you are getting artsy with borders, stick to that. Do not use both interchangeably. You need to have one cohesive style.
DON’T be afraid of adding a long caption to your post. Followers want to get to know you and captions are a great way to add your voice to the brand.
