Branding Your Business on Instagram
This is really important. If you are using Instagram for your business, it is best to be thoughtful about what your brand's voice and story may be. Who are you telling your story to?
If you haven’t thought about your business brand before, I would like you to ask yourself a few questions: Who‘s your audience or customer base? What do they want to see? What are their problems? What are their aesthetics?
This is huge! Whoever is receiving your message is very much a part of your brand. So take some time to think about your audience and your brand before diving into branding your Instagram.
The demographics of Instagram are not just high school students. They are not just Kim Kardashian fans. There are very thoughtful Instagram users who are looking for the brands that they want to buy from.
Research & Community
So do you know who your audience is? Have you thought of who it is that is interested in your business brand? Find a few followers of yours, or potential followers of yours, and research who else it is they may be following.
This is a good time to consider building your own community from the folks that have sparked your interest through your research. This is not only a good way to keep your finger on what it is that your audience is looking for, but a great way to stay inspired in your own creative field. And, in many cases, it can lead to lasting real-world relationships.
I’m going to write a note about this now before I go on. Authenticity in social media isn’t always the practiced norm. But it is the key to keeping loyal followers in all markets. Now with social media savvy audiences, it is more important than ever to be as realistic as possible.
Yes, your product photos might look like a slam dunk with perfectly lit backgrounds and carefully placed props. But, show a picture of the setup. Show a picture of the mess. And don’t ever think that the audience is fooled into believing that your perfect Instagram photo was an easy photo to take! They are aware that some are setup and they expect to see some that aren’t as well.
Find you style, and keep it one way. Consistency is really important to maintaining the brand you spent so much time figuring out.
If you change your mind about the tone or style you choose for Instagram, make it a slow merge, not a sudden difference right away. You’ll successfully confuse everyone that way. Just like people make slow evolutions; Your Instagram feed should make a slow evolution.
Here are some of the favorite Instagram Apps to take a look at:
Instagram Layout Feed
Think about it. When you look at someone’s Instagram feed, you see every picture they have taken. Not just the one you resonate with. Consider this every time you take a photo for your Instagram, or build up the photos in your photo library. So that when your audience looks at your Instagram feed, they resonate with your entire brand.
Take a look at the examples below. All have created a brand that is super cohesive. Some look like they have images stored up and ready to go for every day posts. But despite ultra-perfect looking singular photos (have no doubt that a few of these use professional photography), the layout as a whole looks spot on lovely.
The voice of each brand is clear through their choice of photos.
These examples aren't meant for direct comparison to your's, or anyone else's, Insta layout. These are meant to inspire the possibilities of what your brand voice could evolve into using the visual storytelling available on Instagram.
